Console en bois sculptée – Louis XVI
Half-moon-shaped console table in chiselled, gilded and painted wood – Louis XVI era
Italian “turchino” blue marble top
Provenance: Kraemer gallery
J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
This half-moon-shaped console table has four curved legs that are connected by a crossbeam. The crossbeam is surmounted by a miniature vase, and the table rests on two pine cone-shaped feet. At the top, the legs are finely carved into curling patterns; the edge of the table is carved with floral and leaf-shaped designs inspired by the classical era. This ceremonial table is quite rare.
